VWI is contributing to better decisions impacting water by recognising and empowering women and girls in decision-making processes impacting water, as enshrined in the five Valuing Water Principles.

Aim

VWI aims to explore how gender values shape outcomes of decision-making impacting water. We strive towards actions for a gender inclusive participation to bring systemic change in the way water is valued, understood and managed, as was recommended by the United Nations Secretary-General and the World Bank Group President.

Expected outcomes

• Recognising and strengthening water values associated to gender in decision making processes.

• Supporting already existing initiatives and new ones that take action towards gender inclusive participation that leads to systemic change in water decision-making.

• Mainstreaming gender analysis within already existing water projects and implementing gender aware strategies.

Practical examples of recognising and empowering women and girls in decision-making can be found in Eswatini and Peru.
