VWI works towards better decisions impacting water in the Meghna River Basin, a sub-basin of the Ganges–Brahmaputra–Meghna River delta system. In the Meghna River Basin, VWI and its partners have implemented the five Valuing Water Principles through the development and implementation of the Youth for Meghna network as part of the Meghna Water Futures Programme.

Aim

• Empowering local young people to engage in governance and decision-making impacting the Meghna River Basin.
• Develop and support a series of youth-led local/basin-level actions that address water governance and decision-making challenges in the Meghna basin.

Outcomes

• The Youth for Meghna network was launched, leading the implementation of the Meghna Water Futures Programme
18 youth leaders from Bangladesh and India selected and trained
• Inputs for the development of the 2024-2026 strategy and workplan were gathered
• A strategy was drafted for youth engagement for the Meghna Water Futures Program, which included:
– Promotion, education and awareness
– Support for youth leadership programmes
– Research and innovation fellowships
– Community engagement
